The island has a winter, too
There’s a time of year in Menorca when you start recognising everyone you pass on the street.
The last boats leave, the terraces return to their empty tables, and down at the harbour you find yourself running into the same familiar faces. Someone mentions it’s getting chilly, someone else is still swimming in October, and there are those who haven’t quite put their summer clothes away.
Meanwhile, wardrobes are changing too.
Out come the first long sleeves, the jumpers that have been folded away for months, and that one jacket you always end up leaving on the back of a chair. Clothes come in layers again, mixing with pieces from other seasons and finding their way back into the little routines of everyday life.
Because the island doesn’t disappear when summer ends.
It simply belongs, once again, to those who call it home all year round.
